Under the Hood

Look under the hood
before you ride.
Discover what drives
you. Cars with dents
and dings still run.
Being an older car
takes you just as far.
Every car is different.
Some cars are new.
Others just make do.
Different builds, colors,
and interiors show
us not one single car
is superior. Stop.
Pop the hood and
get a good look.
If you can tell that
all is well, then go
faster. Drive further.
Change the oil,
buckle up, and hit
the gas. No need to
make it last because
in the end, whether
we were slow or fast,
we crash or get passed.


Fragile: Handle with Care

Like most things in the world,
I am fragile. I don’t want to be
damaged beyond repair. All
life is precious and delicate.
Some of us bend to no end.
Most bend till’ they break.
Some are happy as others
pretend. Handle with care.
I am fragile. I want to last:
no need for broken glass.
I assume others are fragile,
too. Only if the others knew.
Be careful with those you
hang around; they just might
break you down. Enjoy
the challenge of growing old.
Believe in your soul that
you can avoid some damage.
Be fragile: handle with care.
We all got crosses to bear.

The New Me

Take a look at the new me.
Don’t I look so different?
I couldn’t tell you where
the time went or how
commonsense was spent.
The current me is new,
and I live to be better –
more refined and defined.
The old me helped me see
what could be. The old me
didn’t care about we.
The new me believes
it takes a village to set
all free. Me – old, young,
fresh, or rotten – can’t
be forgotten. The old me
wanted what I now have.
It is time for the new me
to have the last laugh.
Hahaha – Blah Blah Blah.

The Great Escape

You don’t have to do much
to get tripped up. The mind
contains chains that hold
down brains. The mind
can wander down on trails
derailing trains of thought.
The mind is a cage holding
in memories once caught.
Inside your mind, find time
to escape the cage keeping
you from chasing dreams.
When the walls start closing
in, breathe in the care-free
air. Close your eyes and look
inside. Free yourself – believe
there is more to every life.
Break free from yourself.
Run! Flee! Find happiness:
a life full of freedom and bliss.

Amusement

I am a muse: a cathartic character
in this game of life. A muse meant to be
amused – confused – used. Amusement
to be in this sea of foreign scenery.
I am a missionary and a visionary.
Rarely, do I barely feel too care-free.
I am a fuse: a non-fiction addition
to the attrition of living and giving.
I must be a muse with nothing to lose –
everything to gain. It’s all the same
when we live with the same pain
under the same rain. I am amuse-
ment to be; a soul dancing free
beneath a sky doubling in size.
