Look under the hood
before you ride.
Discover what drives
you. Cars with dents
and dings still run.
Being an older car
takes you just as far.
Every car is different.
Some cars are new.
Others just make do.
Different builds, colors,
and interiors show
us not one single car
is superior. Stop.
Pop the hood and
get a good look.
If you can tell that
all is well, then go
faster. Drive further.
Change the oil,
buckle up, and hit
the gas. No need to
make it last because
in the end, whether
we were slow or fast,
we crash or get passed.

I Wonder
Sometimes, I sit there
and wonder. I think
as blue birds sing.
I get lost in thought
as church bells ring.
I drift away. I wonder
about things that
can’t be changed.
I wonder if I ever
broke out the cage.
I wonder about
the past. I remember
keeping track.
I wonder as rain
dances with thunder.
Sometimes, I sit there
and wonder. I forget
where I am. I fade
away before I
remember what
I was going to say.
Sometimes, I wonder.
Still. Silent. Content.
Sometimes, I wonder
where the time went.
Something Else
I need something else.
I long to love myself.
Something else might
strip away the pain
that remains. I long
for something else.
All in good time. Line
by line, a dark pen
writes the brightest
rhymes. I will be fine.
For now, something
else waits for some-
one else. I see things
come and go. I want
my love to grow into
something you know –
something else, maybe?
The Shape Shifter
It can change its face.
It can take your place.
It can shift its shape.
It can live inside us all.
It can burn all the love
you have left. It can hurt
the soul. It can pull you
more than you know.
It can grow fast. It can
control your thoughts.
It can tell you to be
someone new. It can look
like me or you. It can start
there and come here. Don’t
be fooled. The evil lurking
around can shape shift.
It can take you away
from yourself. Don’t let it.
Don’t run. Face your fear
and look in the mirror.
Don’t disappear. Combat
the evil with peace, love.
Allow the light to guide you
to a feeling you once knew.
Spring Healing
Sunshine will soon shimmer.
The scorching sun will remind
us that we are at the mercy
of Mother Earth as Father Time
takes its course. It’s cold now,
but you just wait. Not before
long, the cold will grow old
and be gone. I see us feeling
more free in the coming weeks.
I can see new beams of love
coming from above. I know
there are good days ahead
with more light to be shed.
