last night

Last night seems so far away.

Time has gone by the wayside.

The morning has arrived. Now,

what’s left are memories from

what was done. Time to look

ahead as I build up the courage

to get out of bed. Dreams, sleep,

and time separate last night

from this morning. Now, birds

are singing. Most are soaring.

We never know when last night

will be our last night. Wrong

or right, the transition to day

brings us closer to the light.

Life isn’t promised or guaranteed.

Tonight could be my last night.

Odds are it won’t be. But, life

is unpredictable as entering

the void is inevitable. Still,

I do what I can to love: to fill

my soul with love and passion.

Don’t forget about last night,

but enjoy the morning. Enjoy

the past, the future, the present

before asking where the time went.

Time on Earth

For what it’s worth,
let’s have the best
time we can on earth.
Life flashes by like
a dragonfly. Time
is beside us, and life
is inside us. Invisible
clocks tick. tick. tick.
The circle of life is
visible at night. We
count stars and sheep
from time to time.
Most of the time,
we lose count and
drift away. Days
grow wings and fly,
yet memories stay.
Life, as we know it,
is a gift: a present
to use in the future.
Our time on earth
will drive our souls
to meet unmet goals.

Losing Count

I’m losing count of the days.
I’m not winning this game.
Many moons have fallen
before my eyes. Many stars
have burnt out. Many nights
have come. Many times,
I’ve lost track – lost count.
The number of times?
I’ll never know the amount.
I lose track of the time
as I pen lines that rhyme.
Sometimes, I wish I knew
how many times in life
that I have counted
the same day twice. Still,
the count is gone: lost.
Each line that I’ve drawn
has now been crossed.
Countless of times, I have
wasted time recounting.
Now, I think to myself:
I should’ve been rounding.

Day Before Last

I’ve counted the days

and now I’ve stopped.

I’ve gone many ways

to get to the top.

I’ve seen the days fly by

in front of my eyes

to only realize

my dream’s demise.

I’ve learned so much –

What to do with it?

Memories go untouched

in a place, they sit.

Three, then two, then one

Now, it is the day before last

And I don’t know where to go.

I’ve lived my days all too fast

with regrets only I will know.
