Simon Says…

Get this bread. Fill your head.

Love endlessly. Laugh often.

Nail the coffin shut. Strut

your stuff. Call their bluff.

Say anything except “but”.

Find different ways to

fill your cup. Look up to

your friends, not your foes.

Survive the lows and enjoy

the highs. Become surprised.

Live through your own eyes.

Don’t wait until they dry.

It won’t last if you go faster.

Slow down in times of disaster.

No need to talk when you can

listen to the voices you have

been missing. Enjoy this time

as death will, one day, take

both you and me away.

Swamped

Engulfed in life,
work;
there is hardly time
to play. Most of us
don’t see the signs.
Flooded with emotions –
swamped
with stress. The day
leaves us
drenched, and we must
dry off
before the next morning.
Soaked and sad,
we can’t help to feel
bad. We do our best
to avoid
drowning in life’s sea.
I don’t choose to carry
this weight. It must
be fate.
Swamped.
Drenched. Flooded.
I choose to not run
from the water that
always comes.

Rain Check

How much will I get
for your rain check?
Can any amount
of money buy me
my time back?
We can’t make up
time. We have
so much down
time and before
we know it, it goes.
Is your rain check
valid or not?
Because it rains
a lot. Who thought?
We both know
I can’t cash checks
you write because
to me, there’s no
rain in sight.

The Missing Element

Rain falls in hope to feel humans

But humans remain immune to nature

Cries heard to wake the sun up from rest

Expecting warmth to show itself

While snowflakes fall unnoticed

Cursing the land for behaving normal

While we stomp its dirt

The trees breathe while rivers speak

To those who choose to listen

This paper is scarred by ink

Dipped by the company rooted in consumption

And rain falls when we least expect

While those under dry roofs

Don’t know what it’s like to be wet.
