Dead Ends

The rubber met the road. The pedal hit the metal.
Raindrops filled the kettle. The explorer did not settle.
The peasant earns Shekels. Many faces wear frowns.
Some attendees heckled. The rubber met the road.
The host ended the show. Robots speak morse code.
Frogs claim to be toads. The snakes in the grass
slither fast as the blades cut and the blinds shut.
In life, follow your sight and do what is right.
Trust your gut. Pretend that you did not just hit
a dead end. Go spend time before time spends
you. It is time to lose the shoes and move out
of the way of the kicking boot. I mean, shoot.
Time to turn around. We are not quite ready
to sing the blues, read the news, or face
the fact that we must pay off our debt.
Just turn around and you will be free: set.

Faces

Which face will I wear today?
What words do I need to say?
Throughout my day, I relay
words coming from within.
I begin by thinking away –
planning just how to begin.
Every day has its own face.
It just depends on my state.
I face the music. I face
the facts. I face many things.
I can wear many faces.
I do what I can to get out
of my own way. I’m happy
I get to face another day.

Wishful Thinking

Over and again, I wish it was different.

I want you to feel better.

You are always curious about where I went,

but the way it was didn’t last forever.

This reoccurring scene is stuck on repeat

and it changed the way I live my life.

This heavy song still plays off-beat

from bright mornings to darker nights.

I truly wish for you to be happy;

I hope you find some peace at last.

I find that my feet are still tapping

to a familiar song from my past.
