Spit Against the Wind

Don’t fight the feeling. Embrace emotions.

Face the pain. Feel the rain. Become

a warrior of life. Tap into your mental.

Life isn’t a rental. You own it. Show

your true colors. Be yourself. Don’t

pretend to be someone else. Help

yourself to this beautiful life. Buy

yourself flowers. Take April showers.

Rid yourself of the masks you wear.

Don’t care what others think. Sink

or swim. The rise and fall. Feel it

all. Don’t run away or escape. You

can be a hero without a cape. Face

your fears and embrace the tears.

Enjoy the struggle. Stand on the rubble.

Stitches

My clothes have looked ripped,
torn, and haggard from the day
I was born. I didn’t think they
were worn down until they were
handed down. Despite the dirt,
I saw clearly. I got clothes yearly
at Goodwill, thrift stores: clearly.
I have fallen, tripped, and ripped
my clothes. It’s the way it goes.
Instead of feeling bad for myself,
I slowly got up looking for help.
It didn’t take long before I found
a queen without the silly crown.
She was happy to show me around.
Within days, I learned how to sew.
With learning to sew, I learned how
to heal. Each time I fall, I recall many
lessons that lessen the hurt and pain.
When I fall, I know my wounds will
heal and my clothes can be stitched.
When there is nothing left but love,
that’s when my life’s been enriched.

Crystal Ball

I looked in the crystal ball.
I saw my birth, rise, fall,
and death. I saw my life
with its darkness and light.
I saw roots. I saw my family
tree growing tall and strong.
I saw me as a child, exploring
unknowns, with an innocence
only children know and show.
I saw my future. I saw better
days. From an ariel view,
I saw the choices I made
and trees throwing shade.
I saw everyday as a game.
I was the star player showing
no fear: grinning ear to ear.
In the crystal ball, I saw
me at the top of a mountain.
I saw that I found a fountain
of youth. It’s the damn truth.
I saw it all in my crystal ball.
I know what I saw, and I saw
what I know. I saw my life
unfold. I saw me grow old.
In the crystal ball, I saw me
write deep into the night.

The Spiral

There are those who make laws
and those who break laws.
There are those who fall
in the middle: standing on
the thin line dividing the two.
Laws are made – and broke:
changed – rearranged -repealed.
There is man’s law, and there is
God’s law. The law of the land,
the law of attraction, the law
of inertia, or the law of cause
and effect are just some laws
in place to keep all life safe.
Both sides of the law form
a perfect circle: a cycle of sorts
that will continue to spiral.
Good will always be at war
with evil, and love will always
fight hate. Destiny will always
challenge fate. Lawmakers
will always need lawbreakers.
The vicious cycle goes full circle
regardless of the side we choose.

The Drop Off

The
drop off is steep. You can
     slip and
             fall.
Once you are done
             falling,
             rise and pick up
             right where
you left off.
Watch for the
      drop off.
Listen for the signs.
Expect it.
      And, don't be tense.
Soon, the
drop off will be past tense.
When the
      drop off comes. Don't run.
      Your journey has just
begun.
