The Great Exodus

The entire city was on fire.

Flames engulfed each building

and house. After centuries, people

left behind their homes, their old

lives. Traditions, history, stories

faded. Ashes were the only thing

left after everyone left. Although

the fire destroyed the past, hope

filled the hearts of the refugees.

They knew they had to believe.

The people rebuilt and gathered

a new understanding. They moved

to a new spot, and regained all

that was lost. They knew life had

to go on, and they weren’t wrong.

A beautiful new city rose from

the ground. They passed life’s test

once they put the past to rest.

Momma’s Boy

Losing you has been the hardest

thing I have ever gone through.

Sometimes, I don’t know what to do.

I feel torn, lonely, and empty at times.

No amount of rhymes can do your

existence justice. I must confess,

life has been different and hard

to say the least. I’m pushing forward.

You are gone, but never forgotten.

You gave me life and taught me

lessons that mean the world to me.

You taught me to be free. Now, you

are free of pain and hurt. I’ll do

what I can to carry your legacy.

It’s not the end for you or me.

It’s the beginning of a new life.

I know you’re here with me

right now. Knowing that helps

me heal. Helps me feel alive.

I’ll always be a momma’s boy.

Mom, thank you for everything.

Until we meet again. I’ll see you

soon. I just don’t know when.

Baby Gray

Since the day you were born,

you’ve shined brighter than

a shooting star blasting across

the pitch-black sky. You glisten

in the reflection of my eye.

Your wide smile cheers me up.

Your youthful eyes tell me that

the sun will surely rise again.

At just 8 months old, you’ve

given me the ability to see

that life has many meanings.

You have taught me to love

unconditionally. You fill me

with joy and energy. I can be

me with you. I am so proud

to be your dad, baby Gray.

You’ve given me the light

that I cherish night and day.

On the Way

I am on the way. There’s not much
to say. You will see me again, soon.
Nothing will stop me from getting
to you. There’s no way of forgetting
the days that came before. Time
will go on when my mind is gone.
My spirit will never leave yours.
I will stay with you for the encore.
I am on the way. I will be there
soon. One day, we will meet
on the moon. We got two tickets,
two seats, and two reasons to live.
Whatever you want, I will give.
I am on the way. With you, I’ll stay.

Crystal Ball

I looked in the crystal ball.
I saw my birth, rise, fall,
and death. I saw my life
with its darkness and light.
I saw roots. I saw my family
tree growing tall and strong.
I saw me as a child, exploring
unknowns, with an innocence
only children know and show.
I saw my future. I saw better
days. From an ariel view,
I saw the choices I made
and trees throwing shade.
I saw everyday as a game.
I was the star player showing
no fear: grinning ear to ear.
In the crystal ball, I saw
me at the top of a mountain.
I saw that I found a fountain
of youth. It’s the damn truth.
I saw it all in my crystal ball.
I know what I saw, and I saw
what I know. I saw my life
unfold. I saw me grow old.
In the crystal ball, I saw me
write deep into the night.
