Down the Street

Down the street,
there are friends and foes.
I go for walks and wave to them all.
What they are doing, no one knows.
If I need sugar, I know who to call.
Down the street,
not one house is the same.
I go for walks and look at them all.
Each vacant house must have a name.
The houses we build will someday fall.
Down the street,
I notice others just like myself –
others resembling sisters and brothers.
When I see them in pain, I must help;
a skill I learned from my mother.
Down the street,
there are houses that we must see.
I’ll walk by with my head held high.
Down the street,
I see neighbors feeling oh, so free
all before the street lights die.

Burnout

We work, work, and work.
Oh, did I say that we work?
We work hard to make it
work. We don’t have the time
to sit. And, I must admit,
We would die before We quit.
We are like those before;
We work, work, and work.
Don’t get me wrong, I work,
but I wonder what it’s worth.
We work so long to build
planes that are never flown.
We work away time killed.
We work hard to go home
with a tank only half-filled.
We work until We burn out
until all the gas runs out.
We work most of our lives
just to keep our dreams alive.
We must never burn out;
We have to take our time.
We work, work, and work:
something We are urged to do.
We have to press the brake
and appreciate the view.

The Sound of Rain

The sound of rain drowns out the pain
all before the showers stop.
The sound of rain keeps me sain.
It blessed me and the earth’s crop.
I always dance in the rain.
The sound of rain calms my brain.
I pray for rain to teach me;
I pray for rain to reach all
roots in my family tree.
I hear the sound of rain
washing all my pain away.

Lime Green Lighter

That lime green lighter carries a flame
that only the strong maintain.
It lights up a room, always, and
when darkness comes, your light stays.
The flame created must be celebrated.
Only so few possess your gift.
So, thank you for the mindsets you shift.
That lime green lighter keeps me safe
and burns away any leftover hate.
This light burns at all times, but I still
have moments where I cry.
I know your light will always shine
and will show me that I’ll be fine.

Forever Thankful

How can I ever express

How much I appreciate

You and all that you do.

There’s no way to say

How much you impact

My day. Never go away.

I say thanks. Thank you

For being yourself.

I just wish you knew

How much you’ve helped.

I’m forever thankful

For your soul and spirit.

I forever say thanks,

Hoping you hear it.
