Time to Shine

It’s time to shine. Dry those eyes.
Move into the night. Dance as
you watch the sun rise. Seize
the day. Enjoy each passing
moment. Breath: it will be okay.
Exist. Live without trying. Smile
after crying. Push yourself to be
the light that fights the dark.
Don’t be a dog that won’t bark.
Don’t be a fish. Be a shark
that tears negativity apart.
When every candle blows out,
and each light turns off, be
the light that guides others.
It’s our time to shine. Time
to write the end of this line.

Gone Fishing

I’ve gone fishing. It seems
I’m the only one here.
The water is calm. The air
is still and is filled
with silence – total peace:
total bliss. I’m blessed to see
life changing. Birds fly free
as leaves drop off trees.
I cast my pole and I wait.
I relax and enjoy a break
away from things that take.
My mind isn’t missing;
it has just gone fishing.

Against the Grain

I’ve never been normal in this life.
I’ve been creating my own light.
In this life, I’ve felt day and night.
I’ve run so far to feel alright.
It had never been easy to be
in a place that can’t be seen.
No matter what, I swam upstream;
I loved to play on the other team.
I’ve always been told to go left
but going left never felt right.
When told to talk, I held my breath.
When told to quit, I knew to fight.
I’ve always gone against the grain.
I’ve learned to endure life’s pain.
I’ve walked miles in my own lane.
I’ve walked alone in my own brain.
The path I chose has one red rose.
The rose can only be picked by me.
I’ve felt some highs to find my lows
I swam upstream. I fought the breeze.
I’ve stayed when I was told to leave.
I’ve gone against the grain to be free.

The River

The River rages on,

A sight we often see.

The River rages on,

Thru people like me.

Waters rush past

With no reason or rhyme.

Waters rush past

Not wasting time.

Birds call out

Gawking at the River’s flow.

Birds call out

Telling all that they know.

The fish swim free

Headed down the fastest stream.

The fish swim free

In all of nature’s dreams.

The river slows down

Then speeds up a bit.

The river slows down

The older we get.
