The Great Exodus

The entire city was on fire.

Flames engulfed each building

and house. After centuries, people

left behind their homes, their old

lives. Traditions, history, stories

faded. Ashes were the only thing

left after everyone left. Although

the fire destroyed the past, hope

filled the hearts of the refugees.

They knew they had to believe.

The people rebuilt and gathered

a new understanding. They moved

to a new spot, and regained all

that was lost. They knew life had

to go on, and they weren’t wrong.

A beautiful new city rose from

the ground. They passed life’s test

once they put the past to rest.

Eyes of Fire

I look in the mirror and I see
eyes of fire staring back at me.
I feel warmth burn from within.
There’s a fire creating heat
that forces me to my feet.
The ice in my veins melts away
the second I head on my way.
In the mirror, I see flames
become untamed. When I turn
around, nothing is the same.
My eyes of fire ignite my sight.
These eyes of fire feel right.

Down in Flames

Fight fire with fire. See
the flames kiss the sky.
Watch the sparks fly.
Feel the temperature
rise as cold weather
dies. Think back to
a time when the clouds
cried. Feel the heat
rip like a baseball
hitting a catcher’s mitt.
Poison swirls inside
a dormant mind.
Love stays on
the brain as hate
goes down the drain.
When life knocks,
do not be afraid
to open the door.
When the heat rises,
try not to go down
in flames. Save your-
self. Ask for help
before you strike
matches that will
turn all into ashes.

Damaged Goods

Broken, worn-down, damaged:
We’re damaged goods. We became
good after we were damaged.
It’s tragic – fantastic. All the same.
We had to fight to become good.
We created light the best we could.
The damage was bad. Fires spread
and burned our spirits and homes.
Flames engulfed all life in sight.
Fires spread and we fled. Damage
was done. It wasn’t good. We ran
to a new place to call home base.
We rebuilt our home in the woods
and became some damaged goods.

New Waves

New Waves have been made.

Ripples and wakes take shape.

Water flows freely, beneath

me. The sea washes away

pain. Water tames flames

burning wild. New Waves

go with the flow. Old waves

really don’t. The calm sea

breathes like you and me.

New Waves will set us free.

Love and life flows inside

the New Waves that I ride.
