Better Off

Your heavy, calicoed hands
stay balled up. Never open
to another’s. Your lifeless
arms always stay crossed
looking like you just lost.
Your patience went astray,
yet the frustration stayed.
The time I’ve been away
has shown me a new life
consisting of better days.
In many ways, I’m better
off not finding the things
that forever remain lost.

Don’t Grow Up

Be a kid for as long
as you can. Don’t grow up.
Be a kid; dream big dreams.
Some say, “don’t kid yourself”
Some are not kids themselves.
Tell me – you won’t grow up.
Be a kid. Be a squid. Be a lid.
Be anything you want to be
before life really begins.
Be an actor – a ballplayer.
Be an astronaut -a farmer.
Be a president – a politician.
Be what you want to be.
Be free, and don’t grow up
because having youth
beats being a grown-up.
Be anything you want to be:
a person your kid self
would be excited to meet.

The Reunion

Today is the day. We all get together.
There’s so much to say. It can’t get better.
To see you all again, it means the most.
We are now men, the game show hosts.
So much time has flown on by.
The sun still shined when clouds cried.
We are here now on this very day.
We made a vow to remain the same.
This reunion is the only thing I need:
To feel the same – to fan the flame.
We have grown and flown from home.
We all drifted apart with the same heart.
Yesterday was the day we all met.
When we met, it felt like no one left.
This reunion was much needed
as our love is deeply rooted.
