My finger is on the button.
Let me know when to press
it. One finger can change
everything. A single bomb,
when inside its proximity,
causes utter dysfunction
due to its mass destruction.
Leaving nothing but rubble,
a bomb will cause trouble.
When there is nothing left
but fragments of the past,
a thriving history surely
will not last. After a blast,
the surviving buildings
are just sad shadows cast.
Tell me when. I’ll press it.
When it is pressed, know
that’s when war begins
as peace is put to rest.

Yikes
Pick up the phone. Open Facebook. Yikes.
Face palm. Like, SMH. It’s alright to not
complain. Try to talk to someone with
a brain in their head without a phone
in their hand. Change of plans. Relax
your hands. Now, open Twitter. Yikes.
Nothing but litter. Open Instagram. Yikes.
Robots disguised as humans. Souls traded
for likes. Yikes. The internet can’t
be real because it doesn’t think or feel.
Yet, people that use it do, but they forget
what’s really real. What’s the big deal?
These words are real. They will live on
long after I’m gone. Pick up the phone.
Yikes. Put it down before you drown.
Slow and Steady
Let’s rock slow and steady.
Easy does it. Nice and slow.
There’s no rush when there
is nowhere to go. Slowly
moving into the unknown.
No need to speed. Let it be.
Slow and steady; I’m always
ready. Life can be heavy,
and when it rains, it pours.
I keep going steady. I move
with the current. Slowly,
I work my way towards
a new day. I keep going,
slow and steady – I think
to myself. I wonder if all
will be well. Who knows?
Really, only time will tell.
Don’t Know
I don’t know what you know.
I do know that I don’t know
what you have gone through.
You don’t know what I know.
Many don’t know how roses
grow out of concrete. I don’t
know how some people stay
on their feet. Some do know
how broken hearts can glow.
Most don’t know that it gets
much better. Life can change
much like the weather. We
don’t know that we can be
free. I don’t know exactly
when all will be well, but I
can tell that it will be soon.
Just like the suns and moons:
the forks and spoons; we live
knowing we need each other.
I know life is hard – unfair,
but to know that you care
helps me learn to be aware.
Hurt
Many hurt, but they keep
moving. They keep going.
Monsters lurk without
many knowing. Battles
are fought in silence.
Wars are won without
violence. Hurt riddles
the bones inside our
bodies. The hurt stays
close to remind all
that even the strong
fall. Hurt and pain:
it’s all the same. Rain
or shine, be glad that
another day came.
With all due respect,
we all hurt, in one way
or another. Don’t let
the hurt cut into your
joy. The hurt and pain
may never go away;
give yourself a break –
protect the happiness
the hurt wants to take.
