Shoutout to my day ones! They keep me grounded.
My day ones have been there; they have been
around. They were there to keep me safe – to help
me, even if it was late. My day ones showed me
a light that was kept from my sight. Day in,
day out, life became more important. Life
suddenly was a flame that could now be tamed.
In the midst of chaos, we would not focus on
the loss. We had fun with no attention paid
to the cost. My day ones are real ones. I know
I can count on them. They know I am there
for them, and I always have been. Day one:
our lives began. Then, we noticed the fast
hands of time. Now, we wish we can hit
rewind. Time’s flown, and my friends and I,
well, we are grown. Regardless, my day
ones may have aged, but our love for each-
other has come and has remained the same.

Holidaze
Life, as we know it, flies by
Much like Santa’s sleigh.
Winter is coming; snow is
Falling, as we are calling
Friends, family, and others.
Given the choice, we will
Rejoice. We will find a voice.
We must remember to keep
Each other warm during this
Weather. It is the only way
That it will get better. We’ll
Dance and sing holiday songs
To spread needed love and joy.
Days pass and smiles last as
The holidays come fast. Yet,
The date is set, and here we
Are. Some hop in a car
And others stay in place.
Some dress up as Santa Clause
And others light the Menorah.
There will be Christmas parties,
Kwanzaa celebrations, and eight
Days of Hannukah. Plus, many
Other holiday celebrations will
Occur without any hesitation.
No matter the occasion, rise up
And love each other this Winter.
It’s not too late to participate
And to remove our splinters.
Enjoy the holidays and smile;
Who knows? The holiday cheer
Might stay with us all year.
Hurt
Many hurt, but they keep
moving. They keep going.
Monsters lurk without
many knowing. Battles
are fought in silence.
Wars are won without
violence. Hurt riddles
the bones inside our
bodies. The hurt stays
close to remind all
that even the strong
fall. Hurt and pain:
it’s all the same. Rain
or shine, be glad that
another day came.
With all due respect,
we all hurt, in one way
or another. Don’t let
the hurt cut into your
joy. The hurt and pain
may never go away;
give yourself a break –
protect the happiness
the hurt wants to take.
All Work/No Play
All work and no play makes Jack
a dough boy, but a dull one at that.
With no time to play, Jack will still
talk shop on the way to the shop.
Jack plays no games. Jack came,
he saw, and he worked. The same
thing everyday. Jack forgot how to
play. Nevertheless, he does his best
to work harder than the rest. Yes,
Jack has lost his way. He forgot
who he was but also remembered
that he must get back to work.
Jack doesn’t have time to think.
For that, he is a very dull boy
who doesn’t feel very much joy.
Because
Because of my past, I see
a world unique to me.
Because of my experience,
I have seen life from
the other side of the fence.
Because of the times I hurt,
I learned to be aware: alert.
Because of the times of joy,
I rebuild people, places,
and hope once destroyed.
Because of the past pain,
I learned to train my brain,
and welcome pouring rain.
Because of the steep slope,
I found new ways to cope.
Because of the challenge,
I have found my balance.
Because of people like you,
I know to push on through.
