Try to face challenges
that bring your best
self out. Walk away
from the path that was
once your past. Reach
for the stars you seek.
Raise the bar and see
life from the highest
valley. Be better than
you were yesterday.
Don’t run in place.
Find strength to go
against the grain
despite the pain.
Feel peace at last.
Enjoy what you have
before it becomes
a part of your past.
It’s not too late. Raise
the bar if you can
and find a place you
would want to land.

Class of 2021′
Class of 21’ – what a year.
Life has been tough.
You did your very best
To smooth what’s rough.
Class of 21’ has soul –
The uncanny ability
To make diamonds
Out of last year’s coal.
This year looked different –
Time went – you stayed home –
Battled boredom – faced challenges –
Missed games, dances, experiences.
Yet, you have risen above, making
the most of this ghost-of-a-year.
You have been strong and brave.
You are weathering life’s storm
Before it takes form. Class of 21’:
From friends to family – it
Has begun. We know it to be
Hard, but fun: a new web spun –
A transition from moon to sun.
You have fought like Vikings,
Gearing up for what’s next.
Class of 21’, you may be done,
But know, the love never left
The place where memories
Are kept and goals are set.
Through struggle, pain, and joy,
You have moved forward:
chasing glory, gold, or greatness.
The world is waiting for you
To make a difference – to be
Whatever it is that makes
You shine and feel alright
Remember this year,
Have no fear and live on.
Just know you did it. You made
It, Class of 21’. We’re not done;
Our story has just begun.
Remember When
Remember when things were different?
The sky was a different color. It was
a different day with different weather.
Remember when we would laugh on
the back of the bus? Remember when
we wished for this day to appear
out of thin air? All we wanted to do
was grow up. Do you remember
when we were young and naïve?
We never thought our youth would
leave. Beneath a tree, we wished
for a better world: brighter skies.
Remember when life was simple?
Me neither, but I try to imagine
a time back then that must’ve
been some of our better days.
Anyways, remember when
life was not a maze or a haze
that would stay? Remember
when all was well? Do you
remember when we thought
life was easy? We can’t forget
where all the time went.
We must remember when
before the next story begins.
Misguided Missiles
Rockets fly – missiles shoot across the sky.
Who is shooting these large weapons?
Destruction seems tempting. Missiles
lose control after being launched. Now,
I see misguided missiles fly without
a purpose. Once shot, it’s an afterthought.
They are forgotten. If missiles don’t have
a guide, then they are sure to collide.
Don’t shoot at those who have chosen to
live in peace. Don’t launch a rocket
at those who have empty pockets.
If you do shoot, guide your missile
before, during, and after its dismissal.
25
Today, I turn 25. Dang,
where has the time gone?
I have learned how to
write, sing, love, and live
in 25 different ways.
25. What a good number.
I’m blessed to see another
day or even year. I feel
fine like a sun that shines.
I must be growing. I must
be learning more. I’m 25%
sure that I’m still loading.
In this life, I give thanks
to all that I love. I’ll push
on to feel alive at age 25.
