The Chosen One

You are the chosen one.
You are the burning sun
that lights up the sky.
You are the birds singing:
the sunflowers springing.
You are the love the world
desperately needs. You are,
by far, the most important
one to me and everyone
else. You know how to help
others that don’t know how
to help themselves. You are
beautiful like a naked smile.
You are sweet like honey
and crisp like new money.
You are the chosen one.
It was pretty easy to choose
you because you turn grey
skies blue. I knew to choose
you, and luckily for me,
you knew to choose me, too.

Swamped

Engulfed in life,
work;
there is hardly time
to play. Most of us
don’t see the signs.
Flooded with emotions –
swamped
with stress. The day
leaves us
drenched, and we must
dry off
before the next morning.
Soaked and sad,
we can’t help to feel
bad. We do our best
to avoid
drowning in life’s sea.
I don’t choose to carry
this weight. It must
be fate.
Swamped.
Drenched. Flooded.
I choose to not run
from the water that
always comes.

Rain Check

How much will I get
for your rain check?
Can any amount
of money buy me
my time back?
We can’t make up
time. We have
so much down
time and before
we know it, it goes.
Is your rain check
valid or not?
Because it rains
a lot. Who thought?
We both know
I can’t cash checks
you write because
to me, there’s no
rain in sight.

Burnout

We work, work, and work.
Oh, did I say that we work?
We work hard to make it
work. We don’t have the time
to sit. And, I must admit,
We would die before We quit.
We are like those before;
We work, work, and work.
Don’t get me wrong, I work,
but I wonder what it’s worth.
We work so long to build
planes that are never flown.
We work away time killed.
We work hard to go home
with a tank only half-filled.
We work until We burn out
until all the gas runs out.
We work most of our lives
just to keep our dreams alive.
We must never burn out;
We have to take our time.
We work, work, and work:
something We are urged to do.
We have to press the brake
and appreciate the view.

Spent

The time I’ve spent , I can’t buy back

and the place I remember faded to black.

My time and money are spent the same

and when it’s over, none will remain.

I made a choice of which to pursue

with cash in my wallet, time flew.

Demanded equally, a divide is created,

we chase after one as the other starts fading.

At the end of the day, I find myself spent

wondering where all my time went.
