Out of Control

My mind may be out of control,

but the way I love makes it whole.

The confidence I lack doubles back,

but my feelings fend off any doubts.

My soul attacks intrusive thoughts.

My evolving perspective cools the jets

often too hot. Sometimes, it feels like

two people playing racquetball inside

my head. I can feel my body tense up.

My heart crashes against a worn chest.

What is out of control is out of my

control. No sense in worrying because

time is hurrying. No need to suffer twice.

The time will come and acceptance will

prevail. There are more seas to sail.

Out of control and into my soul. Life

will fall into place at the end of the race.

if these hands could talk

If these hands could talk, they wouldn’t stop.
They would tell you stories of the past.
These hands would teach you lessons
of hard work and perseverance. These hands
would just because they could. All the scars,
callasses, bruises, and creases show others
that life is a long, winding road that eventually
ends. I can’t pretend that it has been easy.
But, if it were easy, what would it teach me?
These hands would tell you that it will be
okay. You will move on and see a new day.
If these hands could talk, you would understand
that I have gone to war, but came out alive.
Yes, these hands would tell you that I survived.
In this life, these hands have been wet, burned,
bloodied, hurt, and disregarded. But these hands
would tell you that we are just getting started.
If these hands could talk, they would scream:
“Hold me as I long for touch and acceptance”.
They would talk just to talk just like feet walk.

The End of Time

We won’t see the end of time.
Our time will end before
the earth stops spinning.
Life goes on. Every right
will be left to be wronged.
Every rhythm lives on
within each timeless song.
The end of time is a sign
that is out of our sight.
The end of time will not
present itself with or without
Mother Earth and her help.
The time we have now
is now the time of the past.
There is no way to pause
as moments fly by fast.
There is no effect without
cause. Life will surround
those up and those down.
The end of time starts
when our souls depart.

You Had to be There

It’s hard to tell you how
it really was. It was a time
that seems so distant. Life
was different. Things change.
Choices rearrange what was
once the same. People go
away just as quick as they
show up. Some volcanos
never erupt. The worst days
lead to the best of luck.
Depending on who you ask,
things do get better despite
the depressing weather.
You had to be there. It was
a glorious time when all
was well. Now, we are here
to live a life worth living.
We are here now to fight on
until the end of our song.

Simon Says…

Get this bread. Fill your head.

Love endlessly. Laugh often.

Nail the coffin shut. Strut

your stuff. Call their bluff.

Say anything except “but”.

Find different ways to

fill your cup. Look up to

your friends, not your foes.

Survive the lows and enjoy

the highs. Become surprised.

Live through your own eyes.

Don’t wait until they dry.

It won’t last if you go faster.

Slow down in times of disaster.

No need to talk when you can

listen to the voices you have

been missing. Enjoy this time

as death will, one day, take

both you and me away.
