Out of Control

The world is out of control.
Sharp minds become dull.
Stress can squeeze the life
out of a soul. If there is not
a light in sight, just breathe.
Keep fighting; don’t freeze.
Know you can’t change
the direction of the breeze.
Sometimes, it’s better to stay
than to walk away and leave.
People are out of control.
There are more questions
than answers. There are
more songs than dancers.
Life is like rolling some dice.
It is hard to roll the same
number twice. Each day
is another opportunity to
encounter something new,
to reach a higher view,
to get better-looking shoes.
The puppet-master has cut
the strings making things
out of control. The guy
upstairs never stopped
shaking the snow globe.
When life is out of control,
the answer finds the soul.

Hide and Seek

In life, we hide the things
we don’t want others to see.
At the start, the end seemed
far. At the end, we couldn’t
tell the two apart. In life,
we seek, search, and want
things and people
out of reach. Life can be
a game of hide and seek.
Some disappear as quickly
as others appear. Some stay
still and are scared to move.
Some dance despite the mood.
In the end, we will find
all that has been hidden.
In the meantime, find time
to unwind as you release
all the things on your mind.

Below the Surface

He was observed: made from scratch.
He was seen scratching away
at the surface: the stubborn dirt.
He scratched long into the day.
He wanted to reach the hurt.
Not before long, the day was gone.
He found nothing here, so he
scratched there. He couldn’t see
as he scratched deep into the night.
The sun came up, and he looked
down and said: “I can make some-
thing from all the stuff I found.”
Tired and dirty, he walked home
with stuff that can never be shown.
He was happy to have dug below
the surface: a place only he knows.

Her Island

She’s happy on her island.
She has made it her own.
She has more than shown.
Her love supplies the sky
with sunlight. Her eyes
see a life she wants: life
by the sea. Who can
blame her? She is free
on her island. The plants
are healthy. The animals
are healthy, too. She made
the island that way. Life
thrives on her island
and I wanted to visit.
I swam across the water.
I arrived. I looked around
to find her. Not after long,
I ran into a dog that led me
to her – to you. I found you.
I thank you for letting me
on your island. I will stay
for as long as you want me.
We can sit on the beach,
with the sea within reach.
