Behind the Mask

Behind every mask
hides a hurting face.
People mask emotions
by concealing feelings.
People mask pain
every single day.
Everyone wants to
know who’s behind
the mask, but they
never ask what is
behind the mask.
So much more is
behind the mask.
Don’t be afraid
to show yourself.
It’s time to take
off the mask
and face the world.
Rid yourself of
the hurt and pain.

A Poet’s Dream

A Poet’s dream is to be heard
and not seen. A Poet’s dream
is to create, to wait, and to
discover one’s own fate.
A Poet’s dream manifests itself
in words, sounds, and mounds
of half-written ideas found
under the surface: underground.
A Poet dreams a dream brighter
than the sunlight and better than
a good night under the stars’
inviting sight. A Poet’s dream
is to change the world –
to rearrange things to release
one’s hidden pain. Just like
ghosts, Poets do not show them-
selves, but they do know them-
selves. A Poet’s dream
is to live a life that can manifest
itself before and during the night.

Writing my Wrongs

I know my rights.
I have the right
to be happy –
to be free –
to be nothing
but myself. Me,
I know my rights.
When I’m not right,
I write. I write
all my wrongs
and I release
pain that has
stayed with me
for so long.
I know my rights.
I have the right
to write my wrongs –
to get rid of thoughts
that don’t belong.

One-Way Ticket

I’m flying high – oh, so high.
Nothing can reach these heights.
I said goodbye to what made me cry
with nothing but blue skies in sight.
I’m flying free – oh, so free.
I feel weightless – oh, so light.
I fly without worry of what I see;
I appreciate my time in flight.
My wings glide and cut up the sky
as all my problems start to die.
I glide through and cut my ties
to enjoy my freedom as I rise.
I am happy with my one-way ticket;
I made sure not to leave without it.
When I’m gone, please sing my song
as I continue writing all my wrongs.
