In Other Words

Life is a game of chess. In other words,
we will play until the king is put to rest.
Life is a game of 21. In other words,
we can hit or stand without knowing
the dealer’s plan. Life is a game of Risk.
In other words, take out your sword,
prepare for war and kick down a door.
Life is a game of dice. In other words,
some will shoot twice without thinking.
Life is a game of wins, losses, ties, tears,
blood, sweat, love, pain, hope, and loss.
In other words, take what’s yours,
love from the core and be a boss.

Misguided Missiles

Rockets fly – missiles shoot across the sky.
Who is shooting these large weapons?
Destruction seems tempting. Missiles
lose control after being launched. Now,
I see misguided missiles fly without
a purpose. Once shot, it’s an afterthought.
They are forgotten. If missiles don’t have
a guide, then they are sure to collide.
Don’t shoot at those who have chosen to
live in peace. Don’t launch a rocket
at those who have empty pockets.
If you do shoot, guide your missile
before, during, and after its dismissal.

The Distance Between Us

Miles separate
me and you.
You live a ways
away. I live with-
out you everyday.
It feels strange
because thoughts
of you surface
on purpose. It is
like you are here:
closer than before.
Distance between
us means nothing
to us. I trust that
we both watch
the same stars
shooting across-
finding the lost.

Falling Star

Your eyes glow in the night much like street lights

That guide me through the harsh darkness of life.

Your words can pierce the tongues of those who shout

about the very things that instill doubt.

Your mind can change the way others can think

and it can pull out heavy minds that sink.

Your feet take you to the places unknown

and they somehow always lead you back home.

Your soul pushes against the body you use

and fights a battle your body might lose.

Your laugh can take crowds and show them grey skies

and can make a small heart double in size.

Your will to live gives me the strength I need

to find the power to set myself free.

Your sight looks past the people who lack heart

and sees broken things as a form of art.

Your time is spent helping falling stars

find a home whether that’s on Earth or Mars.

Your life has changed the very way my eyes see

and gave me the strength I need to be.

Much like you, I live a life to become better

and to realize “I” is just a letter.

You’re the falling star coming to stay

and the light I need to keep the darkness away.
