The Distance Between Us

Miles separate
me and you.
You live a ways
away. I live with-
out you everyday.
It feels strange
because thoughts
of you surface
on purpose. It is
like you are here:
closer than before.
Distance between
us means nothing
to us. I trust that
we both watch
the same stars
shooting across-
finding the lost.

Fly Away

I’ve never left the ground.
I just want to fly away.
I want to take on the day,
play, and ease this pain.
I’ve yet to grow my wings.
I’ve yet to see the things
from a different view.
I’m stuck in front of a door,
waiting to open it, to see
what is on the other side.
What am I waiting for?
What could possibly be
holding me back, weighing
me down to a flat ground?
When my wings grow,
I’ll know to just go. Today,
tomorrow, or the next,
I’ll know my life is set.
I can’t wait to fly away
when the sky isn’t grey.

The Sky Might Fall

If the sky falls, can I catch
bits and pieces of the sky
crashing my way? The sky
might fall and I will not
be outside to see it happen.
Some will be laughing.
Some will be crying.
I’ll be doing both of those.
There’s no way to follow
rules when the sky decides
it’s time. I will not know
when it will fall; that’s fine
by me. For now, I continue
to see a blue sky above me.

Room to Grow

In this life, there is room
for more love – more growth.
Like the sea, you and me
move back and forth on earth.
For what it’s worth, it works
if we are willing to work.
We must grow in this life
to brighten our own light.
There is time to still shine.
There is a chance to be free.
Remember: health is wealth.
Keep growing up. Don’t look
down. Look around and show
me how much you have grown.

Another Story

I’ve been building. Each day,
I’m climbing higher and higher
up life’s unpredictable tower.
Another day – another ladder.
The stories that I hear seem
to eliminate all of my fear.
In this life, I grow each night
and to my own surprise,
I build until sunrise – first light.
To see stories beneath me
means that I’m almost free.
I don’t look down or go back.
Each day, I continue building,
but that’s just another story.
I’ll continue to grow and build
until my dream is fulfilled.
