One Left

At the start, there were many
just like me: a town full of us.
Now, my heart stays empty.
A store once stood where I
am standing. A church, once
alive, has been laid to rest.
A school that once thrived
is now a page in the history
books. A hospital that once
stood strong is long gone.
Many fled the tiny town,
and some stayed to face
the inevitable destruction
coming their way. Lives
were lost in the small war.
All I could do was watch
as fire surrounded, leaving
me stranded. Many years
later, there is only one left.
I am the man who made it.
I survived life’s greatest
test, and I see the world
for what it is. I am blessed
to be the only one left.

The Discovery

For many years, people have been
searching for treasure somewhere
under the sea. Many have tried
to dive to the bottom and died
with gold shining in both eyes.
The treasure has made men mad
and has turned good men bad.
The treasure remains untouched.
No man or woman has found
this underwater town housing
treasure causing false pleasure.
Not until many years later,
when there was a sailor
who traveled as he pleased
and watched over the seas.
Now and again, he casted a pole
in hopes to catch enough food
to eat. One day, he casted a pole,
and he felt a tug. He pulled up
the line, and he knew he found
the lost treasure he only heard
about. Without making a sound,
the sailor traveled into the mist
with the treasure he just found.
The discovery was never known
as the sailor never made it home.

These Feet

These feet keep moving on streets
that I seek until I become weak.
These bare feet move on beat
to music that my soul creates.
I make haste for time I don’t waste.
These feet are on the move like shoes
that didn’t choose to be put on.
These feet have been moving along
like they have nothing to lose.
These feet have paid their dues,
been on the news, beat cases,
and have said “no” to shoe laces.
Step by step, these feet remain
the same: adventurous and free.
These feet are still on the move
because there’s no time to lose
when there’s new places to see.

Just Another Ghost Town

Past choices made

led me

to this very moment.

I’ve wandered for miles

to be free,

to know where

all the love went.

Years pass by

with my attention …

Gone.

My head stays

.

.

.

down

as voices surround

me – a person not seen.

I don’t know how

long it’s been.

I quickly look up

to no one around;

It might just be

another ghost town.
