The sound of silence – feelings
of loneliness. The sight of darkness.
The seclusion of time. The power
of stillness – lacking movement.
The memory of day. The joys
of spending the night alone.
The ability to think – to envision
the future. The willingness
to reflect. It must be the end
of the day. The sun has died
to no one’s surprise. The moon
has risen with precision.
With a retired sun, lost souls
have the time of their life
during the dead of the night.

The Same Shadow
I keep seeing the same
shadow. It follows me
wherever I go. I know
this shadow can grow
when lights turn low.
My fear seems to flow,
and paranoia ensues.
With every step, I look
to my right – my left,
and I feel the shadow
around me. Can it be
mine? Can it be me
from another life? Is it
the same shadow I see
in my mind? Anyway,
I walk away: leaving
shadows in my wake as
I swim across life’s lake.
New Waves
New Waves have been made.
Ripples and wakes take shape.
Water flows freely, beneath
me. The sea washes away
pain. Water tames flames
burning wild. New Waves
go with the flow. Old waves
really don’t. The calm sea
breathes like you and me.
New Waves will set us free.
Love and life flows inside
the New Waves that I ride.
Dreamtown Drive
This drive has kept me alive.
Dreamtown Drive can erase time.
It can also call my bluff.
Dreamtown Drive seems too rough;
I drive day in and day out
to see what the worlds about.
I see new things that bring pain.
I find myself drenched in rain.
I keep new things I maintain.
I meet people without names.
I tell the story of this road
to help carry this large load.
Dreamtown Drive is all too long;
I choose to just move along.
I pass a lot of roadblocks –
I run over the kicked rocks.
I slow down and look around
all before the sun goes down.
The Deep End
I’ll never forget how to swim.
I’ll never forget this water I’m in.
Drifting away, I lost sight of the shore.
All night and day, I swim some more.
Powerful waves push me around.
I’ll do anything to not sink down.
As a kid, my feet touched the ground.
As an adult, I hear a different sound.
Bobbing up and down, I drift away.
Impossible to be found, I swim all day.
In a matter of years, this water got deeper.
This open water is a natural peace keeper.
I paddle through wakes for my own sake
as I swim to the deep end to meet my fate.
