Second Wind

The man hit a wall. He struggled to juggle
the trouble that came his way. He tried
and tried. He was close to giving up.
He finally said “enough is enough”
He sucked it up. He toughened up.
The man got back on the horse.
He was back on course. He opened
a new door. Yeah, the man hit a wall,
but he hit his second wind. He pushed
through and did what he had to do.
He knew it would be hard, but he did
not stop. The man will never stop
until he rises, again, to the top.

The Air Between

I look up and breathe.
Both my eyes close
as I exhale. I see you
take a breath after
I take mine. The air
between us thickens.
The energy flowing
means that tension
is growing. The air
between you and I
forms an invisible
wall – one too small
to see through. The air
between us dances
back and forth.
Recycled over again,
the air between us
is more than a gust.
The air between us
knocks off the rust.
It shakes off the dust.
I look up and breathe.
I smile and take in
the air that we share.

Road to Nowhere

The road stays long no matter my speed.
Everything goes wrong for those in need.

The road shows no mercy to those hurting;
It doesn't freeze those who are burning.

The road is driven and often abused.
Many drive the road with a life to lose.

The road was made by a fearless soul
crafting diamonds out of coal.

The road to nowhere is always open
And never is the way we are hoping.

The Gate

I approach the gate,

but I’m denied access.

I’m told to wait

and not be the fastest.

The voice echoes

off the rusty gate

and then determines

my very fate.

I wait in silence

much like that gate,

then I reach for the handle

a chance I’ll take.

My turn is now

through years of patience.

I still wonder

where the time went.

The doors swing open

and I’m the last one in.

But was this place different

from where I’ve been?

Others now stand

on the other side

as the gate closes

creating a divide.

I now look through

spaces in the gate

remembering what I knew

from an altered state.
