Carried Away

Today, I got carried away.
Instead of work, I play.
Sometimes I forget to live
without stress. The older
I get, the shorter the days.
Today, I got carried away
from what I was doing.
Half the time, I don’t know
which direction to go.
The other half of the time,
I don’t know if I should
go outside or stay in
and hide. These long legs
carry me away. One point
to the next. Feeling blessed
in my chest, I hold my head
high. I look to the sky. I see
wings carry birds away.
I feel the wind chill my skin.
I can count on my days
getting carried away.
My mind might stray, yet
my body will stay. Blue
skies littered with birds
help me find the words
needed to carry me away.
I look ahead and know that
one day, blues fade to black.

Souls and Spirits

Life is full of surprises, new heights,
and sunrises. Life can shine a light
that will follow us through the night.
Life is full of lost souls and spirits.
The energy those put into the world
will stay around, make sounds, and
will never die down. The feeling
we are left with provides healing.
Souls and spirits roam free. Souls
and spirits attach themselves to
those who don’t quite feel whole.
These aren’t ghosts. They’re friends
from the past: those who once lived.
They are gifts providing support
we were never given. Those living,
feel your soul. Never stop giving
spirits your attention. Keep living
a life that will leave a mark. Now,
know you are never alone as we
are with those we will never see.


A Piece of Me

Piece by piece,
I have put myself
together: a mosaic
of sorts. Fragments
of the past grow
into things I know.
In all of my years,
tears dropped,
and some memories
lost. Tossed out.
The day I break
will be the day
I meet my fate.
At any rate, I piece
it all together.
Forever, I will be
at peace. Each
day, I give you
a piece of me,
so one day, I can
set myself free.

Emotions consume

my entire being.

all of what’s living

My energy is spent

wishing I understood.

My energy is spent

wishing I could.

Time speeds up

my everyday dreams.

Time speeds up

by any means.

My day is spent

loving others.

My day is spent

respecting borders.

My thoughts go round’

stopping halfway.

My thoughts go round’

for half a day.

So, complete my circle

and make me whole.

Complete my circle

and fill my soul.
