Who is to blame in this game
of life? Who controls endings?
Beginnings? Who has a say
in how these things play out?
Who are the team captains?
Do they know what’s happening?
In life, there are players, coaches,
referees, judges, spectators,
commentators, analysts, rivalries,
and concessions. Is there anyone
to blame when we lose this game?
I say no because I know that
life can’t be tamed or controlled.
There is no way to predict
the outcome. There is no way
to get our hands on a script.
In this life, it is easy to play
the blame game by leaving
out our own names. Some
choose not to engage. Most
decide to play. Don’t give
blame, and take responsibility,
Remember that this game
turns out to be our reality.

One Left
At the start, there were many
just like me: a town full of us.
Now, my heart stays empty.
A store once stood where I
am standing. A church, once
alive, has been laid to rest.
A school that once thrived
is now a page in the history
books. A hospital that once
stood strong is long gone.
Many fled the tiny town,
and some stayed to face
the inevitable destruction
coming their way. Lives
were lost in the small war.
All I could do was watch
as fire surrounded, leaving
me stranded. Many years
later, there is only one left.
I am the man who made it.
I survived life’s greatest
test, and I see the world
for what it is. I am blessed
to be the only one left.
The Same Shadow
I keep seeing the same
shadow. It follows me
wherever I go. I know
this shadow can grow
when lights turn low.
My fear seems to flow,
and paranoia ensues.
With every step, I look
to my right – my left,
and I feel the shadow
around me. Can it be
mine? Can it be me
from another life? Is it
the same shadow I see
in my mind? Anyway,
I walk away: leaving
shadows in my wake as
I swim across life’s lake.
Clouds
We all have clouds that surround – clouds
that follow us home. Clouds are a part
of life. Most times, clouds never leave
us – or our sight. Not all clouds are bad.
Clouds will be clouds just like how
kids will be kids. Let them be. Let them
believe that they can be proud. Clouds
will guide us to where we need to go.
Allow clouds to be something we see
and need. Not all clouds are bad. Most
clouds want to be noticed. Clouds can
come and go, but they will always be
watching us for as long as we know.
Back Again
I will come back again.
Don’t worry. Be at ease.
Just because I am gone
does not mean you are
alone. You have people
who love you; you have
people who’ll be there.
One day, we met. Life
was different. For that,
I am glad. Life has led
us to each other. Again,
I will come back to you,
some way or somehow.
Now, I bid you adieu.
I will come back again.
I just wish I knew when.
