Sometimes, I jump in my time machine.

I twist the dial to several years ago.

Cutting up space and time, I blast

into the past. Reliving old memories,

seeing younger versions of ourselves

not knowing what was coming. I turn

the dial back a few more years.

Even with a wiser perspective,

I wouldn’t change a thing. How

things seemed so much bigger when

we were smaller. Everything shrunk

when we grew taller. I travel to

a few years ahead. I see a world

through eyes of freedom and peace.

I look at trees that are old like me.

I see distant mountains and a sunset

frozen in time. I go back to the present.

I unpack my suitcase. I dump memories

all over the bed. I empty my head.

Time is nothing to mess with. Time

must go on. Stay focused on the now.

Don’t dwell on the past or trip on

the future. We are where we need

to be. Live in the now. No need to leave.

    perhaps time travels
to us when we are sound asleep,
    rummages in the

    pockets of her pleated skirt
    for something to leave behind

In returning to the moment, we find ourselves much enriched by our erstwhile wanderings…
