As we shut our eyes, our thoughts run rampant.
We visit old places, see old friends, and recount
conversations all without moving a muscle.
We spend all day inside our heads. We try to look
past trauma and pain that poisoned our psyche.
The hurt stays with us. It creates feelings unexplained.
At any given moment, we get flashes of the past.
We can feel out of control. We begin to worry,
because we think events will unfold in ways
they did before. It’s hard to trust and adjust.
Patterns get created. Trains of thought carry
cargo only we know. We may feel alone,
but we are very much together. Tomorrow isn’t
promised. We don’t know our expiration date, so
we shouldn’t hesitate to eliminate hate.
The future is unknown. Each step we take
brings us closer to home, although our thoughts
roam. The older we get, the faster time goes.
In a blink of an eye, when we least expect it,
our worlds can crumble. Sure, we may stumble,
but we keep moving. We get up each day and do
our best. We exceed our own expectations.
We may be down in our luck or in a funk, yet it doesn’t
stop us from loving, caring, and sharing experiences.
When we share moments with others and exist
in the same space, we know we found our place.
It can be too much to handle. Life is finite, but that’s alright.
Things happen: both devastating and beautiful –
things that make us whole or events that leave
footprints on our souls. Regardless of the result,
much of it isn’t out fault. The choices we make
affect others. They create ripples in a universe made up of
every soul to exist. We feel energy. We possess intuition.
We manifest ideas that come to fruition. Every action
has as an equal and opposite reaction. The way we treat
others says a lot about us. The bonds we build and
the legacy we leave live on; they stay alive long after
we’re gone. We must understand, for thousands of years,
those before us have felt how we do now. We have
much in common, yet we put up walls that divide
two similar lives. We often don’t let go of things
weighing us down. The weight we carry can be far too heavy.
Sometimes, we can’t break free from the chains of despair.
It seems like it’s always been there. It can be hard to see
that others care. It doesn’t have to be like that. We have
the power to move on, let go, laugh, experience bliss, and live
a life we deserve. We can’t leave anything on the table.
We have to love others the best we can and let them know
how we feel before the opportunity is lost. We create
scenarios in our mind. We assume things will play
out the way we imagine. Often, it doesn’t happen.
Songs, smells, places, and other things remind us
of the past. Memories get lodged deep into
our subconscious. They get pushed down to a place far
beneath the surface. As complex as life may seem,
we can come together and help each other thrive.
It’s that simple. Don’t feel ashamed for the mistakes you made.
Forgive yourself for you are human – as am I.
I love you whether you know it or not.
Now, try loving yourself; it’s worth a shot.
