Up in the air. An eternity passes

before the coin lands. Fate is out

of my hands. Heads or tails.

Heaven or hell. Good or bad.

Happy or sad. It could be one

or the other. There are two

sides to every story and at least

two answers to every question.

The outcome is out of my control.

It’s a flip of the coin. There is no

point in guessing. I’ll take my

chances. I refuse to keep loose

change in my pocket any longer.

Going for broke will make me

stronger. It may not always go

my way, but who’s to say that it has

to? I’ll leave it to the powers at be.

Time stops slipping the moment

the coin starts flipping. This time,

I call heads, but it lands tails.

I can’t be upset that I failed

because I have more pennies.

Tomorrow, I will flip again.

Today, I may have guessed

wrong and lost, but that is

the nature of a coin toss.

What a wonderfully reflective and empowering piece.
It takes the simple act of a coin toss and transforms it into a meditation on uncertainty, courage, and resilience. The imagery of fate suspended “up in the air” is beautifully done—time stretching, breath held, possibilities swirling.
