When the sky opens up
and the clouds part,
life seems to make sense.
When we feel at peace,
we start to see the beauty
that hid in plain sight. It is
no secret that bliss is not
just a word that dances
on our tongues and behind
our lips; it is a state of mind
that we find from time to time.
As we walk on life’s rocky road,
we must take the time to stop
and smell the roses. All too
often, we are choosing to curse
their thorns instead of
appreciating their precious
petals. The silence and still
air gives us the opportunity
to experience serenity;
a chance to just exist without
passing judgement. The pain
we’ve felt in the past weighs
heavy on our hearts. Anxiety
run through our veins. There’s
no avoiding these feelings,
but we can let them subside.
Let our souls be the guide.
Our minds will allow us to
find peace; all we have to do
is ask for it. Letting things go
is no easy task, but we must
break free from the chains.
It’s okay to stay grounded,
but it’s also okay to learn
how to spread our wings
and fly away. What a funny
feeling it is to touch the sky,
to be alive, to breathe in fresh
air, to see life for what it is,
to hear the blue birds sing,
to taste freedom, to want
something more: to
finally feel at peace. Today,
I’ll choose to sit outside
and let the rain wash away
my pain. I’ll watch all of my
worries go down the drain.
