I have a question….

With me being on this website, I am able to see and read a lot of amazing poems. Throughout my exploration, I always wonder why people write or what exactly compels people to write. It may seem like a basic thought and even simpler question, but it is one that crosses my brain often. With that being said:

Why do you write?

I would love to hear your answers in the comments.

I know you didn’t ask, but for me, writing allows me to relax and really slow down time. I may not always have the motivation or inspiration to write, but whenever I do start, I am able to shut out the world, and my problems seem to be put on pause during that time. I also enjoy the search for conveying a message through the exploration of synonyms, ways to word things, and expanding my vocabulary. There is nothing better than finding and incorporating the perfect/exact word in a phrase or sentence. I write for selfish reasons, but I also do it to share my story and hopefully connect with others, so they can hopefully relate to my vulnerability and willingness to share.

Now, let’s hear why you write.

Because it speaks of things everyday words cannot express. Because it reaches within and beyond, to ideas and feelings that would, otherwise, remain buried.

Were I in my more esoteric mood, I might say it gives substance and form to the hidden self. A cry from the wild, untamed paet of me.

Because there is catharsis, joy, tears, and understanding for those who take the time properly to read, listen, feel.

Sometimes, I wonder should I stop. And, sometimes I slow down. But so far, something has always put the pen back in my hand.

The summary of all this? I don’t, really, know…
