We all need a weapon to

survive just like I need a pen

to write. A weapon is a tool

used to protect yourself against

enemies. We can make weapons

out of what we already have

to will help us battle the dark

side of life. We walk paths

of peril, fare ferocious seas,

climb the tallest of trees

just to make it another day.

On the road we walk, we will

run into evil forces, the Prince

of Darkness, hellish heathens,

a wolf in sheep’s clothing,

and false gods. We have gotten

this far and have had a chance

to advance because our weapons

took us by the hand. When you

can’t choose a weapon, a weapon

will choose you. Two people can

have the same weapon, but how

they use it makes all the difference.

Some use fire to provide

warmth while others use

that same flame to set

the world ablaze. Some use

a pen and paper to write

stories, so they can remind

future generations of the past,

Some use brushes to create

paintings and murals that

become a moment frozen in

time. Some use weapons

of mass destruction to

destroy without cause.

Some look at their own pain

and suffering as a learning

opportunity; they turn it

into a lesson that can be

taught to others in need.

There’s no such thing as

good or bad weapons.

They simply follow orders.

Sadly, it is the person who

makes a weapon appear to be

good or bad. Some use their

weapons to hurt, while others

use their weapons to help.

True intentions are never

mentioned. At the crossroad,

there is a choice to be made

and a path we wish to take.

I will follow my heart. I choose

peace. My weapon is a part

of me, and yours is a part of you.

Now that the sun has been

swallowed by the darkness

of night, I will put my weapon

down and save it’s ink. I will

put this piece of paper away

because I know I will have to

write a new poem another day.
