I’ve been overwhelmed, but I’ve come to

learn that life gets better. Good, bad,

or indifferent: nothing lasts forever. I’ve been

under pressure, but nothing can hold

a candle to the stress I handle. Whenever

I’m under the weather, I’m no longer

surprised to see a starless sky. I’ve fallen victim

to hard times. I’ve traveled through the dark night.

I’ve been blinded by the light, but I’ve never lost

sight. I’ve underestimated the power of love

and how it can overpower hate.

As a child, I couldn’t wait to grow up. I wanted

get older as fast as I could. Unfortunately,

I got what I wanted. Now, I find that time

has never been kind. Time has never stopped

to ask if I was fine. Only if I knew that I wouldn’t

be able to press pause or rewind. I may have

overshared, but I want to make sure

you understand that I have a story to tell.

When it’s all said and done, I would rather

you know me too well than not at all.

I’ve undergone changes only I’ve seen.

I’ve swam for many miles; I haven’t drown yet.

Even if that day comes, I’ll adapt and learn

how to breathe under water. There has to be

another life under the surface. I’ve dug through

the dirt and went underground: to the deepest

depths of my lost soul and found answers

to the questions I buried so long ago.
