The Blind Butterfly

This butterfly is blind, but he flew just fine.
Around and around, this butterfly went.
Without his vision, the butterfly listened.
The other butterflies didn’t know their
friend was blind – nonetheless – they all knew
he was blessed. His blindness helped him
hear sounds and noises close and far.
He could almost see sounds that were lost
and tossed out. The blind butterfly loved
his life and never felt the need to feel
bad for himself. He didn’t know what
he didn’t know, and luckily for him,
he didn’t know where he’s been.
He just flew, breathed, and weaved
through the air that was shared
by butterflies like himself. He liked
himself, as we all should. The blind
butterfly didn’t need to see other
butterflies to know he wasn’t alone.

Suburban Legend

It’s a suburban legend.
Who knows what the
housewife did? Life
must be wild in
the suburbs – away
from others. I heard
the suburbs are
different from the city.
Legend has it, the suburbs
have no legends at all.
Life seems cool and calm
on the outside. Outside
of the city, there are not
legends. There are only
truths – no imagination.
In the suburbs, I heard
no one leaves, but that
is just an urban legend.
Life is life and suburbs
are suburbs. It’s absurd
there are not suburban
legends that I’ve heard.

The Ghost of You

In this life, I’ve seen you at night
haunting me and my dreams.
I don’t go a day without seeing
the ghost of you. You left me,
but your spirit did not leave.
I’ve heard your voice. I’ve tried
to say hello. I’ve tried to touch
your shadow that always showed.
I’ve been haunted by memories
that only your shadow knows.
The real you couldn’t be found;
yet your ghost stayed around.
Only I can see the ghost of you:
As long as I live, I’ll be able to see,
the ghost of you, in front of me.

The Sound of Rain

The sound of rain drowns out the pain
all before the showers stop.
The sound of rain keeps me sain.
It blessed me and the earth’s crop.
I always dance in the rain.
The sound of rain calms my brain.
I pray for rain to teach me;
I pray for rain to reach all
roots in my family tree.
I hear the sound of rain
washing all my pain away.
